Dadeldhurais known as Queen of hills. In the past, the route to sacred Mount Kailash in Tibet led through this beautiful hill town. Today, Dadeldhura with its rich history and spectacular nature is a must to visit on the way from the Terai to the mountainous regions. One of the most important historical places in Dadeldhura is Amargadhi Fort. This fort is a historic monument directly concerned with the history of the unification of Nepal by then King Prithvi Narayan Shah. During the time of unification in the early 19th century, General Amar Singh Thapa fought the English from this very fort. This fort was built by him at that time to store arms and ammunitions and it also served as a military base or refuse for soldiers.
An attraction of a different kind is the Ugratara Temple. Numerous pilgrims and worshippers come to this temple in the mountainous landscape. Ugratara is an incarnation of Goddess Durga, the Goddess of Power. According to legend, she is one of the seven divine sisters that were commanded by Lord Shiva to stay in this region. There are hence seven temples to worship the Goddesses.
